Sunitha Chitrapu
Head Of Department

Sunitha teaches Communication Research and Fundamental Concepts in Communications at SCM.

A PhD in Mass Communications from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, Sunitha lectures in Communications Research. She started her career as an assistant director to Shyam Benegal and later worked at STAR TV before she attended graduate school.Her research interests include the political economy of media in India and the economics of international media trade.Her research has been presented at international conferences and published in book chapters and journal articles.

P Sainath
Rural Reporter

Sainath teaches the Ethics and History of Journalism at SCM.

Ramon Magsaysay Award winner and former Rural Affairs Editor at The Hindu, Sainath was also the first reporter in the world to win Amnesty International’s Global Human Rights Journalism Prize and the first Indian reporter to win the European Commission’s Lorenzo Natali Prize for human rights journalism. The B.D. Goenka Award winner for Excellence in Journalism, his landmark book, Everybody Loves a Good Drought is still a bestseller and being used as a teaching aid at over a hundred universities worldwide. Rabindra Hazari is an eminent corporate lawyer has been lecturing on Press and Media Laws at SCM for the last two decades. He is currently a partner in the law firm, Rabindra Hazari Associates.

Jeroo Mulla
Former Head Of Department

Jeroo teaches Film appreciation and photography at SCM.

Former Head of Department of SCM, Jeroo Mulla has been teaching Photography and Film Appreciation for over 30 years. During this time she has also supervised over 100 student documentary film productions. She was recently honoured with the Prof. Satish Bahadur Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film Education in South Asia by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad at the Alpaviraam South Asia Film Festival. Apart from teaching she is also an accomplished BharataNatyam exponent who has trained under the renowned guru, Acharya Parvatikumar.

Smruti Koppikar
Former Editor (Special Assignments), Hindustan Times

She has been teaching The Principles, History of Indian journalism, Gate-keeping, Reporting and Writing.

Smruti has been teaching at SCM since 1994. With over two decades of experience in print and electronic media, Smruti is the winner of the Sanskriti Award for Excellence in Journalism. She has held positions such as Associate Editor (West) and Bureau Chief, Outlook; City Editor for Indian Express and Principal Correspondent for India Today. She was also the Western Region Head for Star News. She has authored chapters on the city and its transformations in books on Mumbai.

Jerry Pinto
Author & Journalist

He has been lecturing on the Craft of Journalism at SCM.

Jerry has authored several books, written television scripts, edited a travel dotcom, and contributed articles and columns to several magazines and newspapers. He is a member of the board of the non-governmental organisation, Meljol, which works in the sphere of child rights. He is a commissioning editor for Speaking Tiger books, India, and a consulting editor with Man’s World. For more details on his work, click here

Nirmita Gupta
Course Co-ordinator, SCM

Nirmita teaches Advertising at SCM.

With over a decade of teaching experience, Nirmita is also an advertising professional who has worked on key accounts like Rasna SDC, Hindustan Lever, Air India Warner Lambert and Wipro at J. Walter Thompson and Mudra Communications Pvt. Ltd. She was involved in conceptualizing and executing the TV programs ‘Rajni’ by Basu Chatterjee and ‘It’s a Woman’s World’ by Simi Garewal. She was also the Executive producer for India’s first Tele-film ‘Janam’ by Mahesh Bhatt and involved in the production of a music program for Radio called ‘Hot Tracks’.

Madhavi Tangella
Documentary Film maker

Madhavi Tangella teaches documentary film making at SCM.

An alumni of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata and SCM, Madhavi is a successful documentary film maker. In 2006, she was selected for the prestigious Asian Film Academy and also is a recipient of the SARAI Fellowship ’2005 . Her works include ‘Dhaga Mil Gaya’, ‘Anna Sound Please’, ‘Listen Little Man’. Dhaga Mil Gaya was the winner of the Silver Conch at the Mumbai International Film Festival, 2010. She spends her time writing, teaching and canine counseling wherein she specializes in teaching sign language to deaf dogs.

Sunayana Sadarangani
Producer-Director, TV programmes and documentaries

She has been teaching Broadcast Journalism at SCM.

Sunayana is an independent Producer-Director of non-fiction software for TV News channels. She worked with the News & Current Affairs Department of Doordarshan (Mumbai) for 17 years and subsequently worked with private channels such as NDTV, Aaj Tak and Zee. She was awarded the BRONZE TREE award in 'VATAVARAN 2002', India's first National and Wildlife Film Festival, held in New Delhi.
